Turning A City Lot Into A 40-Acre Farm Update No. 2

Filed under: Chickens, My Rabbits, Our Small City Farm, Pictures, Ramblings, Summer — Nathan @ 8:32 pm

Here is update number two of the updates from the farm. A lot has been going on, and I hope you enjoy this report.

Here’s Bekah. As usual, she’s doing great. I think she’ll be ready to breed next winter

Ben is a good healthy bunny right now. NEWS FLASH! BENNY AND BEKAH ARE GRANDPARENTS! CONGRATS TO BOTH OF THEM!

Here’s the shop with the coop back one-sixty (160 sq ft) behind it. The coop is completely done except for a latch on the window, the chicken door needs to be made, we need to make a door to keep the chickens out of the loft, and of course, we need to build the egg boxes.

Here’s the chickens. They have grown quite a lot since my last post.

Well, not really. But thank you anyway to Susanna for purchasing this sign on a great deal for our coop.

The new roosts. I know you can’t see it, but above the top rung is a window. On that top rung the chickens love sitting and looking out the window!

The view from the window the chickens love. Pretty nice view.

The good ol’ hay loft.

Well, what do you know? Little Miss Friendly stopped in to say hi. She is the nicest of them all. Even likes to be held every now and then. We haven’t named any chickens except this one. I usually refer to her as “our friend.”

The double barn door on the back of the coop to store tools.

It is actually functional finally!

The chicken window closed. We never have closed it except to see if it works. I leave it open always except when it is cold outside. (That hasn’t happened yet.)

The garden. We have only gotten five tomatoes this whole summer. :( But we do have a great grape crop that needs picked. :) I’m waiting for some good homemade grape jam! :D

Ah yes. How could I forget the kitchen? That project is going well but was put off while we worked on the coop. Now, we are getting back into working on that project. This drawer, like three others, has one coat of stain and two coats of polyurethane on it. Ready for the kitchen!

The upper cabinet where the pantry used to be. I don’t think I’ve shown you this.

Here is where those polyurethane drawers go. We are planning on staining this tomorrow.
